While five photo essays were required for the course, I decided to do a sixth one, just for myself. The subject would be the class itself, or more accurately the people who made up the class. Things got too busy towards the end of the semester and I never completed the project, but here's what I did manage to accomplish ...

Martha Ross, in the Communications Department Darkroom.

A.J. Born and Peg Campbell, doing what university students do best - smokin' and drinkin'.
Probably at A.J.'s little house at the bottom of the hill next to Curtis Lumber.

Stu Salmon - trying to figure out which way he should be going.
We know though, don't we? Taken on the grounds of
George Derby Centre, if memory serves.

I arranged to go up on top of a highrise (Central Park Place) on
Kingsway to take some aerial shots. Martha Ross went with me.
She took pictures of the view, and I took pictures of Martha.

Here's another nice one of Martha.

Here's another version of the A.J Born photo taken in front of
the Palm Springs Health Spa. This one comes from a
scan of my own print. Much better than the library's!

A great shot of Peg Campbell that I regret that I cannot take credit for.
I found it in the photomount room and I shamelessly stole it.
I'm guessing it's someone's effort to do something experimental
involving shiny stuff wrapped around their lens. Works for me.

Yet another shot of Mr. Born, taken in the photomount room.
I believe he was trying to say in his own way "Don't you dare take my picture".
But, intrepid shutter bug that I was, I took it anyway.
(You can see the Peg Campbell pic that I stole on the bulletin board.)

Lynn Vardeman was the wonderful woman who ran herd on us all. She was an
inspiration and a joy to work with. Pictured with her is Richard Bidwell, who ran the tech
room where we checked out our tripods and lenses and whatnot. Apparently,
they are engaged in some sort of ceremony here involving ritualistic garb.
As is often the case, I have no memory of the specific circumstances of the occasion!

I don't have many pictures of myself from this period. About all I could
find was this item, taken in a little room at SFU that I commandeered
and used one afternoon to try taking pictures of myself involving
a camera with a timer, a tripod, dim lighting and a cigar. They were
long exposures, solarized during printing to give them a silverish tint.

At the end of the semester, there was a show in the SFU Gallery in the Academic Quadrangle
where we all got the opportunity to show off our best efforts.

Here's the poster for the show.
The native guy was from a picture that Stu Salmon took.
